Formed as a cohesive alternative organism in 2005, the FLOBOTS `good-fight' mythology can be traced via Denver's underground vines and creative community of the late `90s when various members enlivened each others' gigs and creative events, setting the charge that would eventually power up the band's contagious and rollicking rock/rap pedigree. Their rousing live show, seasoned by classically trained viola player Mackenzie Robert's innovative playing, sparked an impressive undertow of across-the-board support (including both coasts and off-the-grid territories such as Nebraska and Utah) as the group honed its glowing activist edge with a refreshingly positive message and bristling musicianship.

The prescient "Handlebars," currently holding down a coveted `Top request' slot at several key radio stations as well as being the Most Added at Alternative Radio, has placed FLOBOTS among the most buzzed-about newcomers in rock and rap circles. "'Handlebars' was written in the same way the group kind of blossomed," says Jonny 5. "I had a friend a few years ago who asked me if I ever tried to ride my bike with no handlebars. I hadn't, so I tried it. Got to thinking about all the other things I could do - we could do. The song came so fast to me I actually called my mom's answering machine to record the lyrics and make sure I got it all down. Of course it's also about how even our best intentions are laden with some sort of opposite. We like to think that FLOBOTS are about directing that positive energy into real change."

"This is coming from a person with ZERO interest in rap/hip-hop..." 2010-07-23
By Christian D. (New York)
Fight With Tools is an amazing album.
The Flobots are an incredibly unique band with a message quite distinct from the norm of mainstream rap/hip-hop (I can't speak for underground rap).
The Flobots have heart, they care about what they do, and I would say they do it quite well.
Led by emcees Jonny 5 and Brer Rabbit and flanked by a viola, bass, guitar, drums, and a trumpet, the Flobots make music like no other.

I do not like rap or hip-hop but the Flobots have been my only exception since I found them a few years ago.
Musically, they do have a sort of alternative rock sound, often accompanied by hip-hop beats, and that is one reason I find the music agreeable. Nevertheless, Jonny 5 is an amazing rapper.

One should heed warning that the Flobots are a bit political, but that doesn't make them any less of a band.
For the most part, there lyrics are agreeable to most (like 'Anne Braden', speaking against racism), though every so often you may find a thing or two you disagree with. No problem with that though! We are all entitled to our beliefs, and the Flobots are pretty consistent in believing the best for mankind and the world.

 "great!" 2010-06-16

This is what I want to see hip-hop going to. Reminds me of rap lyrics that ment something. Violin is a nice twist, and Handlebars is only the begining to their originality and style.

"Cross Immortal Technique with Gym Class Heroes" 2009-09-17
By Raymond J. Mendoza (Tampa)
That's kinda exactly what this album is, it seems pretty militant but delivery and content isn't as militant as Rage against the Machine or Immortal Technique. Got tired of it after awhile, don't really feel the need to listen to it again. Go put in Revolutionary Vol. 1 or Battle of L.A.

 "Flobots are awesome!" 2009-08-31
By Sebastian Wilson (CA, usa)
This is a great CD. Not only is the music flowing and a lot of fun to listen to, but The Flobots also have great messages in their songs. Many popular CD's these days have garbage for lyrics but that is not the case with these guys. There music is a mix of hip hop / rock / ska. Definitely recommend this CD to anyone who likes this type of music.

 "If You're Thinking, You're Winning" 2009-08-15
By Aaron Gutsell (Clementon, NJ)
Buying into the Handlebar song like so many others, I found that I had invested in a brilliant CD that delivers a unified message across a dozen songs. The album is one of human potential, hence the Handlebar song, the message is a positive mishmash of hip hop and rock, with some great viola and trumpet thrown in. This aint some gimmick like The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony,' you know that catchy violin riff penned by Jagger, the viola and trumpet are instead an organic part of the Flobots' sound. These guys jam it out with some really intelligent lyrics like "Who let em overthrow Mohammad Mosaddeq?" Well that one refers back to the 1950s when Kermit Roosevelt was involved in a CIA operation that ousted Iran's democratically elected leader (who coincidentally threatened to nationalize the oil companies), the Shah was installed, and judging by decades of headlines, everything has come up roses. Ultimately 'Fight With Tools' refers to the individual's power to overcome through the use of their mind, and if you're thinking, you're winning.
